Boarding at El Camino

At EL CAMINO, in the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains, in the outskirts of Redlands, California, and amidst a grove of top producing orange trees, our customers tell us they find our ranch to be a relaxing, fun, and invigorating experience for them. They love the beautiful view we have of the mountains–a gorgeous vista of Mount San Gorgonio, and in the winter, the breathtaking sight of the snowy peaks, which is actually only 40 minutes from the ranch. All boarded horses are managed alongside our broodmares, lesson horses, and pleasure horses. Close health monitoring is provided and we can easily cater to your retired senior or a horse recovering from an injury. Our Health Care Manager will work with you to create a customized nutrition plan and exercise regimen that will most benefit your horse according to its specific needs.

The perks of choosing El Camino...

Attentive Health Monitoring

Our farrier(s) are here bi-weekly and The Veterinarian, Dr. Hugh Gibbs, is here weekly or more frequently as needed. Outside veterinarians and farriers are also welcome. As included in your board, El Camino will keep track of your horses health records and will alert you to upcoming farrier work, dental work,  vaccinations, or veterinary appointments. Your horse’s immunizations and will be monitored and given by the veterinarian. Customers also have the choice of adding Strongid C dewormer, fed daily with the feed.

Beautiful Facilities

The lighted 120′ x 180′ arena with custom sand/rubber footing is always available for use and comes with an unbeatable view of the valley and mountains. Included with the price of board the customer has access to three hot walkers, and cross-tie and wash rack areas. A customer tack room and tack lockers are also available. EC boarders also have access to the covered 60 foot diameter round pen also equipped with custom rubber footing and 8ft wall. Dirt pastures are available in the evenings and grass pastures and turn out areas are available upon request. El Camino is located about one mile down the road from the Crafton Hills Trails where we frequently trail ride.

Balanced Nutrition

Here at El Camino, we feed Alfalfa and Bermuda Hay three times per day. A light lunch is provided to help promote a healthy digestive system. For new foals through horses 2 years of age, we feed Orchard and Alfalfa Hay. TDI grain is given with the AM and PM feedings as well.  In addition to an appropriate amount of hay, also we feed Psyllium (metamucill) regularly to prevent digestive problems such as sand colic.  Additional/different grain and supplements  are given when specifically ordered by the customer. Custom or special diets can easily be arranged. El Camino has experience in monitoring and assessing diets for horses of all types of workloads and stresses, including horses who are in training, pregnant, recovering from colic surgery, recovering from an injury, or suffering from a condition (such as HYPP or cushings). We cater to the older, retired horse as well, and do our best to make their golden years are filled with good health, happiness, attention.

Safety and Security

We have four employees who live here on the ranch, so there is health care monitoring and emergency care readily available 24 hours a day. We do health/security checks in the early morning, multiple times throughout the day, and twice in the evening. During "walk arounds" EC staff will look for signs of distress or illness, obvious injuries or lameness, dietary observations, condition of the stall or pen, and the horses general attitude toward life. All important notes are recorded in that horses file. El Camino turns on a security alarm from 9pm to 6am. The property is fully fenced in and the front gate code for entry onto the ranch is shared only with employees and people who own horses on our property. Although we are closed for business on holidays we encourage  customers to visit their horses on  any day and ride if they choose. El Camino invites the local fire department to evaluate our property for fire hazards and we are up to date on all fire extinguishers. Barn fire safety drills are an annual occurrence for all employees and any customers that wish to attend.

If you think EC is the place for you and you are interested in boarding here at El Camino we welcome your questions. For new customers, we usually start with an orientation and tour of the facilities. A services contract will be available to complete during a visit to the ranch prior to bringing a horse for boarding. This is also a great opportunity to get to know the people and horses here. We are a family friendly environment, and many people make lifelong friends here, both two and four legged.    We hope your stay with us will be a pleasant one, and welcome any suggestions you have for added safety or convenience.
